Hi all,
This is a complaint that i sent to ICTA. I am copying the MIU in this
email, but i removed sensitive/personal data in this version. I feel that I
am not the only one having these issue.
The email is as follows:
I have read on your website[1] that ICTA will provide :
- "economic and technical monitoring of the information and
communication industry"
- "entertain complaints from consumers in relation to any information
and communication service in Mauritius, and where necessary, refer them to
the appropriate authorities"
Hence I assume that this is the right place to channel my issue. My problem
is described below :
I am customer of Orange and I am subscribed to the MyT package since many
years now. I am an IT profession who depends on reliable internet for work
and entertainment.
Currently my connection speed is a maximum of 512Kbps, and I have to pay a
monthly fee of Rs750+VAT. However, Orange has advertised a package called
LaFibre[2] which offers 10M for Rs949.
*First* of all, this package costs Rs199 more and is TWENTY TIMES faster
than what I have. I feel that I am being offered an unfair deal and I
request ICTA to look into the matter. Especially when it is possible unto
8-12Mbps over the traditional phone lines.
*Secondly*, I would like to switch to LaFibre and enjoy the 10M bandwidth,
but as per Orange plans[3], my region is not even in their plans to receive
this service. If I was to pay twenty-times less than the LaFibre
subscribers, it would be acceptable, but I am not given a choice, and my
right to proper internet access is not being taken care of.
This situation is unfair and I will be forced to pay an excessive price for
an internet speed(512Kbps) that is *NOT* considered as broadband as per the
ICTA Broadband Policy[4]
I trust that complaint will be treated fairly and carefully by the ICTA,
