Hello SM,

I think its very interesting to see a lot of the local media company use
Youtube to broadcast events locally. Some events are even broadcast live,
which is not something I though would be possible two years ago. The good
thing with Youtube in Mauritius is that it somehow works faster than other
video hosting/streaming services, so the upload and download speed is
generally better. I have a 512k internet connection but youtube is
considered local traffic(cached somewhere locally?) and I can measure my
download speed from youtube to be around 2mbps. This helps a little,
allowing me to watch HD videos.

I hope to see more media company take advantage of 'live' content and why
not make it a norm. Will youtube will be the platform of choice? That
depends on the news publishers.

This raises another interesting question, Does broadcasting 'live' on the
internet complete bypass the need to be registered as a 'television
channel' to broadcast? I'm assuming that media companies need some kind of
license to be able to broadcast video live on television.

There is the technology to do interesting stuff.

A Mauritian internet news TV will certainly be interesting stuff. I believe
we're getting there.
