Hello,

There is a news article in L'Express about
"Enregistrement pour la carte d’identité: ce
qu’il faut savoir" with the following:

"Et le système, duquel ont été effacées toutes les données biométriques
il y a plus d’une semaine, ne contiendra plus que les photos et les noms.
    Il s’agit uniquement d’une mesure d’identification."

The following is from 2015 SCJ 177:

"the provisions in the National Identity Card
Act and the Data Protection Act
for the storage and retention of fingerprints and other personal biometric
data collected for the purpose of the biometric identity card of a citizen
    of Mauritius are unconstitutional."

Is the photo biometric data?

This text is from 2015 SCJ 177: "To get the new
Identity Card, Plaintiff will have to provide
biometric information, namely his fingerprints and photograph, to employees of
the Defendants". There was a news article in
L'Express on 16 July 2014 about "Contestation de
la carte d’identité: le calvaire de Golapen
Pavaday en Cour" with the following: "Il a
cependant pu être établi que les photographies
des citoyens prises dans les centres de
conversion sont des clichés biométriques qui
peuvent être utilisés pour identifier une personne."

I am curious about whether Ish noticed this
before he gave the interview which was published in Week-End yesterday.

Regards,
S. Moonesamy
