Re: Internet Service in Mauritius
Hello all,
I have investigated the feasibility of a ‘real-life’ testing mechanism -
not testing via a specific server, but testing load time of websites such
as facebook, twitter, youtube and the likes.
Iframes cannot be embedded, nor can cross-site calls be made (ajax) for
most services, for security reasons.
The options I have found are:
- Different client (custom build of a browser) : too complex, time
consuming and unappealing for general public to use
- Embedded client (e.g. java applet or flash) : too complex, time
consuming, unappealing for general public to use AND plugin presence /
security issues
- Browser extensions - chrome / firefox : Chrome and firefox are popular
browsers and writing an extension in this regard is *relatively* easy
The extension could just check the page load time and send stats to a
website of our own making.
The code can be made open source to guarantee no abusive snooping.
What is your opinion? Did I miss any other option?
Thanks and Regards,
