The issue at hand is .MU is a ccTLD and ICANN does not accredit ccTLD
registries, meaning they don't need to abide to ICANN's Expired Domains
Deletion Policy based on my understanding. For ICANN-accredited registrars,
they have to release the expired domain back to the pool of available
domains after about six weeks if it is not renewed.

I do not know why NIC.MU decides to hold on to an expired domain for at
least two years instead of releasing it.
