The market in Mauritius is also very small. If one wants to make a
breakthrough, a start-up would need to sell a competing product at a
lower price, and then the Mauritian consumers would consider shifting to
save some money.

Most of the current successful start-ups in Mauritius are selling
products/services to Europe, and in a few cases the US. Even if the we
get more Mauritian seeding capital, a significant amount would go to
traveling to Europe/US to convince clients to buy the products/services.

In my humble opinion, this gives Europeans and Americans an advantage
over Mauritians as they can leverage their existing business contacts,
that they acquired due their time spent there, and their familiarity
with the culture.
