Dear Mrs Madhub,

The Privacy Compliance Assessment App is the first collaborative
effort between a government department and Open Source Software
developers. It is also the first time anyone in Mauritius ever
attempted to start a Open Source Software project for the country.

The Privacy Compliance Assessment App was four months of work for the
five persons who contributed to the design of the software. It
incorporated concepts such as privacy by design, responsive web
design and usability. The persons who did the work did not solicit
any government funding; it was entirely a volunteer effort.

There is a report of a privacy breach at
https://lists.afrinic.net/pipermail/rpd/2015/004693.html Will the
Privacy Compliance Assessment App raise awareness about privacy
considerations in a company or government department which collects
and processes personal data?

I would like to thank you for engaging with the software developers
and providing advice about the privacy aspects of the software. I
doubt that this example of collaboration will inspire other persons
in Mauritius to undertake a similar effort if the Data Protection
Office cannot give credit for the work.

Regards,
S. Moonesamy
