Hi all,

Captchas and robots.txt rules make it only slightly more difficult to obtain
the private information that is an email address, but does not prevent it
altogether.

The reasoning behind my suggestion is that the mailing list should provide
some measure of confidentiality from external parties. It is fine for people
who have subscribed (and are thus part of the group) to see who is saying
what; on the other hand, I am not comfortable with having my opinions read
by people who are not bothered to contribute. If you look at
groups.google.com, the identity (name and email address) of posters are
masked to anonymous users of the site whereas authenticated users can see
that information. Something similar to that would be much welcome.
