Hello,

Many people are reluctant to participate in the various topics being discussed as they are afraid to express their opinion due to their lack of knowledge. Moreover i think many people are more used to chatting (instant messaging-FB and Twitter) than sending mails which normally involves a more formal approach compared to what they're normally used to. I used to be like that before i subscribed to this mailing list. arrghhh X__X it wasn't easy to get out of my comfort zone but now... i feel awesome that i did because i got to learn a lot from you guys! (Y)

Its a Mailing List where both technical and non-technical people are welcome to share their opinion and discuss about problems related to the Internet. If you want people to help you out..you have to make an effort and express yourself. This mailing list is for every person who has Internet connection... not only geeks, engineers or computer students. :)

Hey come on!! Am a fashion design student and am making an effort! Even if you feel like 'Okay... i don't know these people.. they're going to make fun of my mail and stuff' i was like that too. My mails are not formal. I write because am comfortable and thanks to SM because i used to freak out every time i would click on the 'reply all' button X__X
Maybe you still feel like...who are those people? Are they cool?
Well, come and participate to our meetups and events...you'll see ^^

So... to sum up... i really encourage you to participate. (Y)

Cheers \m/

Hello ,
Being subscribed on this mailing list , we receive around 10 new topics everyday , I take my time to read the threads as soon as I can. As SM mentioned it is true as a student I find my knowledge limited about many things being discussed here, however I do reply if I have anything to say. Looking on the bright side am learning a lot through those thread.
Recently there was some issues with the LCMS platform of the university of Mauritius, which I posted to this mailing list and few fellow students along replied as well. I believe this is a way of participation as well.

Why do you think there is not much participation?
There is very little participation as people are not interested in what is being discussed on the mailing list. People might be afraid to participate because of their lack of knowledge of some of the topics being discussed. People might also not comfortable to discuss about problems in a transparent manner because of legal threats.
An initiative-based approach has been adopted as it was not possible to solve the participation problem. We only try to solve an issue if there is a group of persons with initiative and who are willing to put in regular effort to do the work.
