Hello,

There was a news article by Florian Lepoigneur in
L'Express about "Facebook : le nombre
d’usurpation d’identité en hausse". The news
article has the following: "Les milliers de
plaintes enregistrés par le Computer Emergence
Response Team Mauritius montrent la tendance. 48%
des comptes sont des faux". According to
statistics provided to the National Legislative
Assembly last week, there were 548 complaints
about social networks since 2009. That is less
than the number reported by the "Computer
Emergence Response Team Mauritius"
(CERT-MU). 41.97% of the cases were dropped
because of lack of evidence. This is close to
the percentage of fake Facebook profiles mentioned in the news article.

The news article mentions that 22% of the persons
who complained to CERT-MU were "victimes d’un
pirate". I guess that it means that the Facebook
account was compromised. Using the lowest figure
from CERT-MU, it would also mean that there were
220 cases of "pirates". The number which I
compiled [1] was not even close to that.

Are the figures provided by CERT-MU reliable?

Regards,
S. Moonesamy
