Hi all,

I just became aware of this mailing-list and, as a follower of ICT
development in Mauritius, am very interested to follow the discussions
taking place here. I have been kindly requested to introduce myself.

First of all, I have been living in the UK since 2001. This fact alone might
immediately disqualify my presence here. But hopefully, my background will
offset that.

Back in the mid-1990s, I published an e-newsletter titled MU-ONLINE, created
several mailing lists, and was an active participant on alt.mauritius.
Unfortunately, Internet adoption was quite low at the time, and I lost
interest in those.

In 2002, I developed the original register.mu but no longer have any ties
with the registrar.

At the time ADSL became available in Mauritius, I led an online petition
(developed the site, too) to get Telecom Plus to bring down the price of
home ADSL. The action was reported in the local papers, and soon after, TP
revised its tariffs. I can only hope that was a result of the petition.

Around 2008, I created /r/Mauritius, which I still "manage" together with
Avinash Meetoo.

Lately, I have been but a follower of ICT developments in Mauritius. I have
a fond interest in the .MU debate (for obvious reasons). I am hoping to make
some connections through this mailing list whilst keeping up-to-date with
ICT news.

I am Head of Development in the UK network of global media group Publicis
Groupe.

Regards,

Eddy Young
