Hi Florian,

I read your article about "Infotech: le bazar de
l’informatique a tenu salon". The dial-up days was not really around 2000.

One of the interesting points in your article is
whether "les gros acteurs" are responsible for
educating "les Mauriciens en matière de
technologie". There is very little incentive to
sell technology on the island. It is more
profitable to stick to the "bazar de produits informatiques".

   "En fait, le salon de l’Infotech n’est qu’un écran de fumée pour cacher
   la faible connaissance de la culture informatique, qui ne se résume qu’à
   des Smart Devices. L’absence de masse critique ayant une culture
   informatique fait défaut."

In my opinion, a "culture informatique" is
different from a technology culture as the latter
goes beyond hardware or software. There isn't,
as you mentioned, the critical mass. The
following is also an interesting point:

   "Mais les Mauriciens ne sont pas les vaches à lait. Ils doivent avoir des
   produits informatiques pour changer ou améliorer leur quotidien et pas le
   compliquer."

Technology would have to make a person's daily
life easier. Otherwise, what the person is using
is merely an inert device or service.
