​Eight? Seriously? I live at Providence, Quartier Militaire, Postcode 81602
and if tomorrow another lorry[1] breaks my phone line, I don't think the
rest of the so-called ISPs could provide me Internet equivalent to the
speed of my current MyT package (at the same price).

So, nope! There is only one ISP in Mauritius with rest being just resellers.
